Matthew McDonald

Matthew has more than 30 years’ experience managing a range of insurance matters for clients including insurers, self-insureds, employers, brokers, underwriters, third-party providers, private companies, and publicly listed companies.

His areas of focus include public and product liability, rural and farm, home and contents, landlord and strata, latent diseases, and workers’ compensation. With his breadth of expertise Matthew has handled thousands of claims across a diverse range of industries and sectors including construction, manufacturing, rural, transport, resources, professional services, community and education, and hospitality and retail.

Matthew’s experience extends to worker-to-worker claims, work injury damages claims, statutory claims, s151Z recoveries and silicosis claims and the interplay between the workers’ compensation legislation, tort legislation and the common law in worker-to-worker claims to achieve the best possible outcome for his clients.

With in-depth experience handling high-frequency claims, as well as dealing with complex and sensitive claims across multiple jurisdictions, Matthew has developed a reputation for his thorough and common-sense approach, and for delivering commercial outcomes to meet clients’ objectives. His ability to build close relationships with his clients has enabled him to gain a strong understanding of their individual business needs and the types of risks most common to their business.

Matthew has a keen interest in progressing alternative pricing strategies.

He is a member of the Australian Insurance Law Association.
